Fairfax Swim and Dive

The Tadpole program is for young swimmers (ages of at least 4 years by June 22, 2026) who are working toward being on the swim team. We welcome younger brothers and sisters of current Frog swimmers, as well as those new to the swim team experience!

The Tadpole Program includes:

Approximately 4 weeks of 30 minute classes in the mornings after school has ended (18 classes total, which will begin at either 9:00 or 9:30 a.m. depending on registration numbers)

At least two developmental swim meets for those who are ready (very short and very spirited "races" for Tadpoles during B-meets with our big Frogs)

Joining our big Frogs at pep rallies and for Fun Friday Donuts.

And our much-anticipated TADPOLE OLYMPICS and TADPOLE AWARD CEREMONY on the last day of classes!!

Your young swimmer is ready for the Tadpole program when he/she meets the following criteria:

1. Must be between the ages of 4 and 8 years-old.
2. Must be willing to leave their parent or guardian to join the group in the pool independently. It is very important that the Tadpoles are willing to transition easily.
3. Must be comfortable in the water and able to fully immerse their face, underwater.
4. Must be able to submerge under water and kick or pull themselves, unassisted and without touching the bottom, to an instructor a few feet away.
5. Must wear swim goggles and hair pulled back out of the face.

If your child cannot do all of these tasks, or is a brand-new swimmer, please wait until next season for Tadpoles and sign up instead for swim lessons. This will ensure that all of our young swimmers and instructors have a safe and happy swim season. Our 12-and-older Frog swimmers volunteer to coach after being trained to teach Tadpoles developmental stroke (freestyle and backstroke), kicking and diving skills.

The 2026 Tadpoles program begins with assessments on Monday, June 22nd and classes will run daily, Monday thru Friday, from Tuesday, June 23rd through Friday, July 17th. The Tadpole Olympics will be on Friday, July 17th. Tadpoles will have the opportunity to swim in an upcoming developmental B meet held by our swim team (for those who are ready/interested) against another team, on a selected Monday evening.  Date will be determined closer to the start of the season.

!!IMPORTANT!! 

All Tadpole participants must be pre-registered. Walk-ons will not be accommodated due to our adherence to strict coach-to-tadpole ratios.

Tadpole Registration Deadline is June 5th but in order to received a team shirt you must register by May 26th.

The 2026 fee for Tadpoles is $175 and is separate from your family's Swim/Dive team dues.
